- Jungle lodges in the Oriente
- To the east of the Andes, lies the start
of a vast area of lush tropical rainforest that stretches across
the amazon basin to the Atlantic Ocean. It is a difficult area
to traverse and most visitors will stay in one of the jungle
lodges, who can arrange transport to where you will be staying.
Unless your destination is nearby to one of the few towns (Puyo,
Tena, Misahualli, Coca, Macas), then it is likely you will need
to travel by motorized dug-out to get there. It can be very wet
in this region, so bring appropriate clothing/footwear, and a
polythene bag for your camera. When choosing your lodge, one
big plus is where they have a tower or other high vantage point
-you will see a completely different view of the jungle from

- Cayabeno Lodge
-thatched cabins in the Cayabeno Reserve in the north east of
Lodge -based in the northeastern
Province of Sucumbíos, in the upper Ecuadorian Amazon
region, within the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, the Lodge was built
in partnership with some family members of the Siona Community.

Jungle Lodge -set on the banks of river Napo, one hour by
motor canoe from the town of Francisco de Orellana (El Coca).
Accommodation is in comfortable bungalows on a high hill covered
with untouched jungle -the resort owns 50 hectares of primary
jungle. No TV or radio in order not to disturb the wildlife,
but wifi internet access is available.
- Cabañas San Isidro & BirdEcuador -located in 1300 hectares of the heart
of the lush subtropical zone of the eastern Andes near the town
of Cosanga, Cabañas San Isidro has a reputation as one
of the finest birding and general interest cloud forest lodges

you to fully enjoy the wonders of the tropical rainforest by
the Napo River.
Lodge -offers seventeen
bungalows built in a traditional style overlooking the River
Napo, about half an hour from Tena. They can organise a complete
tour from Quito, taking in Papallacta, Baños and Cotopaxi
on the return.

cabins with private bathrooms and running hot water, individual

- Misahualli Jungle Lodge -can host up to 100 guests who stay in comfortable
suites and cabañas. The lodge is built on a 145-hectare
plot of protected primary and secondary rainforest of which,
3 hectares are gardens and green space.
Wildlife Centre -community-based ecotourism lodge in the
Yasuni National Park.
Lodge -jungle lodge located
50km down the Napo, on a 3200-acre (1300-hectare) private reserve,
guests will take their first walk along a raised boardwalk through
dense flooded palm forest to Pilchicocha lake.
Lodge -Quechua community
ecotourism project perched on an oxbow lake in the heart of the
Ecuadorian Amazon jungle.
-cloud forest reserve on the eastern slopes of the Andes on the
road from Baezav to Archidona, 150km from Quito. Set in an area
rich in diversity, there are more than 250 species of bird, including
humming bird and toucan in a forest of caucheras (big rubber
tree). Mammals that frequent the area include mountain tapir
and spectacled bear. Activities include bird watching, horse
riding, mountain biking and kayaking,
Lodge -located on the
banks of the Napo river in over 3000 acres of primary and secondary
rainforest near the tiny community of Mondaña - two hours

- Wildsumaco -in the rainforest to the east of Quito
at an elevation of 1400m this lodge is dedicated to birding.
- Altos del Pastaza
-24 rooms scattered across 96 hectares of primary rainforest.
They have a viewing point "el Mirador" where you can
see Sangay, Altar, and Tungurahua Volcanoes. Located near "Hola

- Kapawi -Kapawi is the largest community-based
project ever developed in Ecuador. Kapawi was created to
provide high service in one of the most remote and pristine areas
of southeastern Ecuador, away from oil exploitation and other

Copalinga -a family run
lodge, located 3 km from the Bombuscaro entrance of Podocarpus
National Park. The lodge has 8 wooden cabins for a maximum of
18 people and offers excellent birdwatching opportunities.
- Cabañas Rio Yambala -in the foothills of the Podocarpus National Park,
the cabins are a great base for hiking, horse trekking, birding
or just relaxing.
