- Jungle lodges in the Oriente
-
To the east of the Andes, lies the start
of a vast area of lush tropical rainforest that stretches across
the amazon basin to the Atlantic Ocean. It is a difficult area
to traverse and most visitors will stay in one of the jungle
lodges, who can arrange transport to where you will be staying.
Unless your destination is nearby to one of the few towns (Puyo,
Tena, Misahualli, Coca, Macas), then it is likely you will need
to travel by motorized dug-out to get there. It can be very wet
in this region, so bring appropriate clothing/footwear, and a
polythene bag for your camera. When choosing your lodge, one
big plus is where they have a tower or other high vantage point
-you will see a completely different view of the jungle from
up high.
-
- The lodges generally have offices
in Quito which can book your stay and arrange the necessary transport.
